Why am I unable to get loans or traditional grants or scholarships? Being an international student has some benefits, of course, but unfortunately it also has some minuses. William and Mary is a state school – the money it has comes from taxes and the American government – and the policy is to give money to American students. It makes sense but makes it hard for international students to pay for their tuition. I attended Jamestown High School in Williamsburg-James City County, Virginia, this year, and there was a huge scholarship fund for two district schools in our county, but I was unable to apply even though my grades were excellent. I was an exchange student and the funds were for American citizens. There were a couple of smaller private schools that offered me full tuition scholarships but there were not nearly as good of schools as the College of William and Mary. I really want the challenge of a college like William and Mary. I want to get the best education possible! Therefore I decided to take my chances and try to finance my education myself. I believe that if there is a country in the world where a slogan such as "No Dream Should Be Impossible" works – that is the United States of America. |
